So I tried my hand at recycling some magazines and turning them into some kind of container. The method that worked best for me was cutting about 1 1/2 inch strips with a straight edge cutter and folding them into thirds.
Of course my craft station always ends up sitting on the bed with me.
I used my handy-dandy clipboard to secure the strips. When I started out, I kept everything pretty tight and neat, but it ended up being a bit sloppier toward the end. I think this has a lot to do with my using thicker strips (from magazine covers instead of pages) at the beginning and then kind of forgetting and reverting back to the thinner ones. The thick pieces are good to hold some sort of structure.
I actually did this bit first before all the above bit. Originally I tried just starting from a square and bending the edges to weave the sides into 90 degree angles, but that ended up being a lot harder than it seemed.
My shit looks so cluttered here. Welcome to my bedside table. Anyway, here is the base of my basket upside down. I straight up mod-podged each strip and rolled them up into this. Added the arches about halfway through for extra support, and what I thought would be some sort of connecting mechanism.
So, alright, cool. Except the two pieces are not attached. The long strip that I rolled up into a cylinder works great, but I have no idea how to connect it to the base. I've tried several things, but nothing too drastic as I don't wanna completely fuck it up.
Any ideas? Has anybody successfully tried this before? Of course this is my first attempt so maybe I'll do better next time!
